Dead Animal Collection

Dead Animal Collection

The SWMD collects dead animals from City streets and residences. This includes domestic animals and wildlife. Please call 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000, or complete the online form to request a pickup.

This service is available everyday but is subject to holiday changes.

If the animal is at your residence, place the animal in a trash bag or box and leave at the curb.

Never place an animal in any of the three carts – brown, blue or green.

SWMD personnel cannot collect dead animals from attics, ditches, under buildings or on private property.

When possible and based on the condition of the animal, the Department will scan for micro-chips and also remove and record collar and tag data. That information is given to the City’s Animal Care Services.

Commercial collection is available to veterinary clinics for a cost of $10.00 per animal. Veterinary clinics should purchase dead animal tags to have on-hand.

Bagged Leaf Collection

Bagged Leaf Collection

Customers may request two free curbside leaf collections per fiscal year (Oct 1 – Sep 30). Call 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000, or complete the online form to schedule. These guidelines apply:

  • Additional collections during the same fiscal year can be requested for an additional $20.00.
  • Leaves must be placed in kraft paper bags only. Never cardboard boxes or plastic.
  • Total volume cannot exceed eight cubic yards or 50 bags per collection.
  • Bags must be made of two ply kraft paper, have a wet strength of 40 pounds and be securely closed.
  • Individual bags cannot weigh more than 40 pounds.
  • San Antonio’s organics program does not accept material placed in bags marketed as ‘compostable’ or ‘biodegradable’. There are different brands of different quality. Some actually do not break down. The City cannot tell consumers which brand to buy and so to avoid contamination, no bags of this type are accepted.
