The SWMD Outreach Program strives to help youth and adults learn about environmental topics and sustainability best practices. Our presentations, either virtual or in person, will provide learning opportunities in recycling, waste management and natural resources in alignment with San Antonio’s specific programs.

We understand that you may not be able to wait for curbside collection of brush and bulky materials. For your convenience, we have Drop-Off Centers located around the City for the disposal of your brush and bulky items. A picture ID & CPS Energy bill are required.

Household Hazardous Waste
Several locations and schedules are available for City residents.
Christmas Tree Mulching
In January you can drop off live Christmas trees that will be turned into mulch.

The Solid Waste Management Department provides these curbside collection services for our 370,000 residential customers. They each have guidelines to help ensure each type of collection is successfully accomplished. Find your collection day.

LaMar Hicks
Recycling Coordinator
LaMar Hicks is a Recycling Coordinator for the Outreach and Education section of the City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department. He has been a coordinator for 3 years and has been working for the City of San Antonio for the past 6 years, getting his start Parks and Recreation as a Recreation Specialist. Before that he served multiple positions for
the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio. He attended Troy University and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and Fitness Management while on a track and field scholarship.
Asia Jones-Carr
Recycling Coordinator
Asia Jones-Carr has been with the city for 16 years. With 10 years of experience in Solid Waste and certified by the TXSWANA. She presents to hundreds of classrooms from Pre-K 4SA to our Senior Centers every year. She has written two children’s books “Where does it go?” and “What happens?” As a woman in the Solid Waste industry, she has been called upon to mentor many of our inner-city young women in the community.
Pedro Orduño
Recycling Coordinator
Pedro Orduño retired from teaching after 26 years in San Antonio public schools. He joined the City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department in April of 2018 as a Recycling Coordinator. Mr. Orduño holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Science degree in Counseling. He is bilingual and is responsible for coordinating public information, promotion and outreach relating to recycling.
Breana Trevino
Recycling Coordinator
Breana Trevino has worked in educational positions with the San Antonio Zoo and Environment Texas, as well as many years in the theme park industry at SeaWorld San Antonio and the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. Ms. Trevino graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science and a minor in Biology. She has recently completed her Master’s degree at Texas Tech University.

Felicia Madison
Commercial Manager
Felicia Madison has been the special projects manager in the ReWorksSA division at the San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department
for almost five years. She has had the honor to work with a team of highly motivated and inspired experts, business community leaders,
and stakeholders to build and launch the city’s commercial recycling initiative, ReWorksSA. The Team has been on a mission to connect San Antonio Businesses to Sustainability Solutions that work. Previously, Felicia worked at Visit San Antonio for over eighteen years, and
held many leadership roles from Account Executive, Sales Manager, Director of Sales and Director of Business and Community Relations
and Development. She helped to market and sale San Antonio as the premier meeting, convention, and visitor destination. She is the 2nd Vice President for the National Forum of Black Public Administrators - San Antonio Chapter. Felicia has served on the board of the Alamo City Black Chamber of Commerce, as an Executive Team Member, and Gala Chairperson. She currently serves in various leadership roles for several committees for organizations in the San Antonio Community. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s University, with a B.S. in Communications/ Marketing. Before she began her career with the city, she sold TV time for the local FOX Station, ran a modeling agency and was a professional model.
Brenda Morales
Special Events Manager
Brenda Morales has been with the City for 12 years and is the Events Services Manager for the Solid Waste Management Department. She is the liaison between internal/external customers and the operations division of SWMD regarding trash and recycling at special events. Recently, she joined the ReWorksSA division to connect local businesses with sustainable solutions and resources. A San Antonio native, she graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Communication Studies.
Zabrina Rapozo
Assistant Marketing Manager
Zabrina Rapozo is our Assistant Marketing Manager. She runs our social media accounts and also creates videos for the department. A San Antonio native, she is a graduate of University of the Incarnate Word. After spending 12 years working as a Television news producer, she began her role with the SWMD in 2018. Zabrina is passionate about storytelling and loves educating the public on better recycling and how we can keep our City beautiful.
Tamara Mencey
Recycling Coordinator
After studying abroad in Italy and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio,
Tamarra began her career in the non-profit sector. She worked locally promoting women’s empowerment and traveled to Peru, Kenya, and Tanzania to work alongside other women on projects pertaining to clean water, feminine hygiene, and sustainable transportation accessibility. She is eager to share her knowledge and ideas on waste reduction, composting, and recycling with fellow Solid Waste Management staff and members of the San Antonio community.

Josephine Valencia
Deputy Director
Josephine Valencia joined the City of San Antonio in December 2010 as the Assistant Solid Waste Management Director. She is responsible for all solid waste collection activities in the Northwest and South central districts. In addition, she also manages the household hazardous waste program, the brush recycling facilities, and regulatory compliance for the City’s closed landfills. Ms. Valencia has over 12 years of experience in the solid waste industry. She is the former Waste Disposal Manager for the City of Durham, NC. Under her leadership, Durham permitted and built the first yard waste facility in the state that complied with stringent water quality regulations. She was also involved in the closure work for a land clearing and inert debris landfill and permit renewals for the household hazardous waste facility and the solid waste transfer station.
Marcus Lee
Marketing Manager
Marcus Lee is the Marketing Manager and Public Relations Officer for the Solid Waste Department. He is responsible for creating most of the Department’s executive presentations for the City Manager’s Office as well as the Mayor and Council. Lee has been with the City for four years and had a prior career in the private sector of international brand development. He has a degree in Marketing and Communications from Stephen F. Austin University. Go Jacks!
Timothy Pittman
Solid Waste Manager
Timothy Pittman joined the City of San Antonio in April 2019 as a Solid Waste Manager and is responsible for billing and customer accounts as well as applying innovative ideas to help streamline operations. He has 20 years of program and project management experience in the private and federal sector. Tim is a San Antonio native and graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in Business Management.
Lynn Cox
Executive Assistant
Lynn Cox joined the City of San Antonio in October 2000, gaining knowledge on City government by working at several departments before joining SWMD. Lynn provides support to the Director’s office and manages functions of City Council affairs, human resources, communications, and special projects. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Texas Lutheran University and Master of Public Administration from UTSA. Lynn is married to Chris, and they have a German Shorthaired Pointer named Abby.
